
I worked for Professor Baker on the west front of Exeter Cathedral for two summers.
The king (left) and the knight shown next to him were repaired using a system of
cast lead and lime repairs. The empty niche below was the subject of a sculpture
competition won by Simon Verity . My submission, unfinished, is shown above. The
drawing left was made in the late 1980's by Stuart Blaylock of Exeter Archaeology
in the course of the front’s repair and conservation. It shows the sculptures around
the south porch. Dating from around 1342 to 1480
