Bath Abbey Scott’s Plaster Casts 1994
These plaster figures either commissioned by Sir Gilbert Scott or his Clerk of Works James Irvine, were made for the restoration of Bath Abbey west front in the 1890’s. At this time plaster casts were being made of many great European sculptures e.g. the cast room at the V&A. It is with great forethought that these casts were made from the originals using gelatine moulds. They are a wonderful faithful record of the figures. Also all the carving models for the replacements are included. I was asked to repair and reinforce these fragile artefacts which are now kept in the chapel of the Bath Abbey burial ground and the heritage vaults.
