Richard and Sally Strachey and team, now of Strachy and Strachey conservation carried out all the conservation work on Rebecca

“Water is best .“ That was the motto of the Temperance Society who built this fountain in 1861. Rebecca fountain suffers badly from vandalism and like all fountains needs constant maintenance that is not always forthcoming. However when it is working it attracts a lot of attention especially from thirsty  tourists waiting for the tour buses.

We were asked to refit it in 1986 after a bout of vandalism had destroyed an attached drinking fountain and this is when I designed and cast the inset bronze angel fountain . However it still attracts some vandalism ironically because it is a target for drunks on Saturday night binges. It was again completely refurbished in 2003 by  Cliveden Conservation
